About

Learn Garifuna. Learn English. Share the Language.

Garifuna Video Teacher exists so that anyone — a grandchild in the diaspora, a student in Dangriga, a teacher with a classroom — can learn and pass on the language.

Our mission

Garifuna is spoken by a few hundred thousand people, and every generation that loses it loses part of a history that survived exile. We build short, repeatable video lessons in both directions — Garifuna for English speakers, English for Garifuna speakers — so the language keeps moving between generations and across borders.

How the platform works

  1. 1LearnPick a path, watch short captioned lessons, then practice what you heard.
  2. 2CreateTeachers and creators build lessons in a guided ten-step video builder.
  3. 3VerifyGarifuna terms are checked against a canonical lexicon before anything is labelled verified.
  4. 4ShareEvery public lesson has a clean link, a QR code and an embed option for classrooms.

What the status badges mean

We never claim a lesson is linguistically verified unless it actually is. Approved Garifuna spellings and diacritics are never silently changed by our tools.

Garifuna Verified

The Garifuna spelling and meaning match an entry approved by a Garifuna speaker in our canonical lexicon.

Creator Submitted

Submitted by a creator. The Garifuna forms have not yet been checked against the canonical lexicon.

Contributors & verification

Verified creators are Garifuna speakers and teachers known to the community. Anyone can submit a lesson; a reviewer checks the language before it can carry the Garifuna Verified badge. Corrections from the community are welcome on every piece of content.
