About
Learn Garifuna. Learn English. Share the Language.
Garifuna Video Teacher exists so that anyone — a grandchild in the diaspora, a student in Dangriga, a teacher with a classroom — can learn and pass on the language.
Our mission
Garifuna is spoken by a few hundred thousand people, and every generation that loses it loses part of a history that survived exile. We build short, repeatable video lessons in both directions — Garifuna for English speakers, English for Garifuna speakers — so the language keeps moving between generations and across borders.
How the platform works
- 1LearnPick a path, watch short captioned lessons, then practice what you heard.
- 2CreateTeachers and creators build lessons in a guided ten-step video builder.
- 3VerifyGarifuna terms are checked against a canonical lexicon before anything is labelled verified.
- 4ShareEvery public lesson has a clean link, a QR code and an embed option for classrooms.
What the status badges mean
We never claim a lesson is linguistically verified unless it actually is. Approved Garifuna spellings and diacritics are never silently changed by our tools.
The Garifuna spelling and meaning match an entry approved by a Garifuna speaker in our canonical lexicon.
Submitted by a creator. The Garifuna forms have not yet been checked against the canonical lexicon.
A reviewer is currently checking the Garifuna forms in this content.
A Garifuna form in this content does not match an approved entry and must be corrected.
Contributors & verification
Verified creators are Garifuna speakers and teachers known to the community. Anyone can submit a lesson; a reviewer checks the language before it can carry the Garifuna Verified badge. Corrections from the community are welcome on every piece of content.
